Celeste Martinez

South of Eden Farms, run by Celeste Martinez, raises registered Nigerian dwarf goats in Mosheim, Tennessee, a small community in the foothills of East Tennessee about an hour east of Knoxville. The farm got its start in December 2015, when Celeste and her husband purchased their first animals after relocating from the city following a trip that introduced them to the mountains of the region.

Before acquiring her first goats, Celeste researched herd health thoroughly, specifically seeking out animals from breeders who tested for Johne's disease, CAE, and CL — conditions she describes as deadly and incurable. That commitment to sourcing from tested herds shaped the foundation of the program from the beginning. The farm raises its livestock guardian dogs alongside the goat herd, chickens, and the family's pet dogs, with an emphasis on dogs that are calm around family members and children.

In addition to dairy cross goats and their guardian dogs, South of Eden Farms also keeps chickens and produces farm-fresh eggs.
