Castleguard Cane Corso

Castleguard Cane Corso, based in Cedaredge, Colorado, has been breeding cane corsos for show, working, and companion roles since the program's roots in the late 1990s. Cedaredge sits on the Grand Mesa in western Colorado, roughly an hour from Grand Junction, giving the dogs room to develop in a rural, open-air setting.

Owner Shauna Demoss is among the most credentialed figures in the breed nationally. She has served as the longest-tenured member on the Cane Corso Association of America Board of Directors, first elected in 2000, and has spent much of that tenure overseeing AKC breed education for the CCAA. Her authored materials are used by judges and breeders across the country, and her articles have appeared in publications in four countries.

Health testing sits at the center of the program. CastleGuard screens breeding stock for hips, elbows, hearts, eyes, patella, and DNA, and was among the first programs in the country to achieve 100% certified hips across its breeding dogs. That multi-generational commitment to hip screening has contributed to some of the strongest PennHIP scores recorded in the breed. On the show side, the kennel has produced more than 100 AKC-titled corsos and holds the record for Reproduction Championships produced, including the only American-born corso to earn multiple championships and a Best in Show win in Europe.
