Cape Newagen Alpacas

Cape Newagen Alpacas raises alpacas on Southport Island along the mid-coast Maine shoreline, south of Boothbay Harbor. Anne Gobes and Michael Ciccarelli established the farm around 2015 after spending several years visiting alpaca operations across the region to prepare for the work.

The farm is a small, family-run operation that also keeps sheep and chickens alongside its alpaca herd. Fiber from the alpacas is milled in Maine or spun on site and left undyed to showcase the animals' natural color range, which spans more than 20 shades. Those interested in alpacas for sale in Maine will find a program rooted in hands-on, sustainable fiber production rather than large-scale commercial output.

Cape Newagen Alpacas shears its herd annually, using every part of the fleece for yarn and related products. The farm's approach to husbandry reflects the owners' commitment to small-scale, eco-conscious farming on an island setting with direct access to the Maine coast.
