Cajun Water Retrievers

Cajun Water Retrievers raises Labrador retrievers on a small farm in Carriere, Mississippi, just north of New Orleans — a program that originally got its start in Covington, Louisiana.

The operation was founded by Courtney Cox and was inspired by the family's first Lab, a hunting-line dog named Rowdy, whose calm indoor temperament and high working drive shaped the direction of the breeding program. The goal from the outset has been to continue those lines and share that character with other families.

Puppies are raised using Early Neurological Stimulation, a structured protocol that introduces controlled, mild stresses in the early weeks of life to support immune, cardiovascular, and neurological development. The program requires OFA health testing at 24 months before full registration is released. Labrador retriever puppies from this Mississippi-based kennel carry hunting-line heritage while being bred with an eye toward dogs that are equally at home in the field and in the house. The farm also raises miniature horses alongside the dogs.
