Buckhorn Llama Company Inc raises ccara (classic) llamas in Masonville, Colorado, a rural community in the foothills west of Fort Collins near Rocky Mountain National Park. Owner Stan Ebel has been working with llamas since the operation's early roots in 1970, with the company formally dedicated to its llama program by 1985.

The focus at Buckhorn has always been on developing well-conditioned pack animals suited to serious backcountry work. The herd has supplied pack llamas to the National Park Service for operations on Longs Peak and to outfitters running wilderness trips throughout northern Colorado, which speaks to the physical conditioning and trainability of the stock. Alongside selling and leasing llamas, Stan has developed his own custom pack equipment designed specifically to fit llamas for sale in Colorado and for use in high-altitude terrain.
