Buck Brook Alpacas

Buck Brook Alpacas raises huacaya alpacas on 38 acres in Roscoe, New York, a Sullivan County community in the western Catskills about two hours north of New York City. Justin Meckle and Kara Mcelroy have been breeding and raising alpacas on the property since 2013, building a herd that now numbers well over 100 animals in a range of natural colors including black, brown, fawn, grey, and white.

The breeding program draws on genetics from several recognized herdsires, including Snowmass Best Man, Everlasting Paramount, Velvet Touché, and Matrix Majesty, with roughly 30 cria born on the farm each year. The herd is maintained on a predominantly organic diet, and the fiber produced is noted for its hypoallergenic qualities. Herd sires include animals with award-winning credentials and champion bloodlines, and many animals in the herd have produced show-recognized fleeces.

Beyond the breeding side, Buck Brook operates as a working fiber farm, processing fleece into roving and yarn and offering alpaca for sale in New York state. Those interested in alpacas as livestock or in sourcing quality fiber will find a program that has grown steadily from its founding animals, originally sourced from Nature's Reserve alpaca farm in nearby Callicoon, NY.
