Boot's Fainting Farm
Boot's Fainting Farm raises registered myotonic (fainting) goats in Ville Platte, Louisiana, a small Cajun Prairie community in Evangeline Parish, roughly 50 miles northwest of Baton Rouge. The farm is run by Ricky Deshotel and takes its name from Boots, a pet goat given to the family that sparked the whole operation.
The farm's story began with Boer goats before the owners discovered fainting goats and ultimately made the switch to focus entirely on the myotonic breed. Early foundation stock was sourced from Hickory Branch Farm in Moss Bluff, Louisiana, whose animals traced back to Myron Johnson's Coyote Creek Ranch in Florida and ultimately to David Autry's HALR herd in Tennessee, connecting the bloodline to the original myotonic goats of Marshall County, Tennessee. Additional does from a separate bloodline — Woody Creek Farm in Tennessee — were later added through a local Ville Platte source to broaden genetic diversity.
All animals at Boot's Fainting Farm are registered through the Myotonic Goat Registry (MGR). Buyers looking for registered fainting (myotonic) goats in Louisiana will find a program built around carefully selected bloodlines and a straightforward commitment to raising the breed true to standard.
