Black Rock Mountain Alpacas / Fiber Works

Black Rock Mountain Alpacas / Fiber Works raises alpacas in Fernley, Nevada, a high desert community about 30 miles east of Reno. Claudia and Jerry Porter operate the farm, which combines an alpaca breeding program with an on-site full-service fiber mill.

The Fiber Works side of the operation processes alpaca, llama, mohair, yak, and bison fiber, producing rovings, batts, rug yarn, fine yarn, custom rugs, dryer balls, and finished goods such as stocking caps and scarves. The mill runs Belfast Mini Mill equipment and offers thorough inspection and grading of incoming fleece before processing begins.
