Bieber Red Angus Ranch

Bieber Red Angus Ranch raises registered red Angus cattle on a family-owned seedstock operation about 10 miles west of Leola, South Dakota, in the north-central part of the state roughly an hour from Aberdeen. The ranch traces its roots to 1961, when Ron and Lois Bieber established a diversified crop and livestock operation on the property, hosting their first production sale on-site in 1975 — a tradition that continues in the same building today.

Now in its third generation, the operation is led by Craig and Peggy Bieber along with their daughter Kristin and her husband Jake, with three additional full-time ranch employees supporting daily operations. The ranch runs close to 1,000 registered red Angus females and markets roughly 550 breeding bulls each year, making it one of the larger red Angus seedstock programs in South Dakota.

Genetic selection centers on performance data, with the program incorporating DNA testing, genomically enhanced EPDs, ultrasound evaluation, and feed efficiency testing alongside traditional metrics like birth, weaning, and yearling weights. Selection emphasis is placed on fertility, structural soundness, carcass merit, and maternal traits — traits the family describes as driving profitability for commercial cattle producers. Land stewardship is also a priority, with rotational grazing management built into the ranch's day-to-day cattle program. Family members have been active in organizations including the Red Angus Association of America and the Beef Improvement Federation.
