Bartellhaus German Shepherds

Bartellhaus German Shepherds has been raising German shepherd dogs in Becker, Minnesota since 1985, making it one of the longer-running programs for German shepherd dog puppies in the Central Minnesota region, roughly 45 minutes north of Minneapolis.

Russell Bartell and his wife Marilyn founded the kennel as a family operation, and the program has since grown to include their daughters, who have been involved in raising the dogs since childhood. The kennel keeps its black-and-tan female lines tracing back to the original dogs they started with, intentionally avoiding inbreeding or line-breeding to preserve the qualities that made those early farm dogs valuable. The current stud lineup also includes a black-and-tan male with Eastern European bloodlines, bringing additional structural soundness and temperament into the program.

Each puppy is raised with attention to socialization alongside children and adults, and puppies leave with a first set of vaccinations, a vet check, and a health guarantee. The kennel's approach has stayed consistent across four decades — a small, family-run program focused on structure, temperament, and dogs that settle into household life.
