Andante Alpacas

Andante Alpacas, alpacas, Chico, CA in Butte County and the Sacramento Valley near Sacramento. Susan Crane has been breeding and caring for alpacas for over a decade as a member of the Alpaca Owners Association, with regular health screenings and fleece evaluations for every animal.

The herd grazes on rotational pasture and lives in spacious shelters shaded by oak trees, and every alpaca is handled daily to encourage calm behavior around visitors and other livestock. Many produce fine fleece sought by regional fiber artists, and some have placed at local fleece shows.

The farm has welcomed school groups and fiber enthusiasts for quiet tours that focus on sustainable farming and fiber processing, reflecting Crane’s belief in education as part of her care philosophy. Manure is composted on-site and contributes to an organic garden whose produce is donated to community food banks. Crane also hosts occasional workshops on fleece care and breeding fundamentals for new and experienced alpaca enthusiasts.
