The dogs are house hounds in the fullest sense: they live indoors and move freely between the house and yard through a doggie door, spending their days exploring a shaded, tree-lined yard filled with oak and pecan trees. Puppies are introduced to the yard as soon as their eyes open and are running alongside the adult dogs by around six weeks of age.

The program emphasizes real-world versatility, with the Cannons actively participating in both conformation showing and hunting activities with their hounds. Dogs from the kennel have earned titles in the show ring, including a Winners Bitch and Best of Winners at a four-point major, and have been entered in PBGV Club of America hunt events.
