Zhou's Box Turtle
Cuora zhoui
Zhou's box turtle was described from southern Chinese market specimens; its wild range and habitat remain unconfirmed despite searches in China and Vietnam. Adults have a brown-black shell, an olive head and a hinged black plastron with a large yellow central patch. Specialist conservation collections breed this egg-laying species with managed water access, sheltered land and nesting substrate.
Cuora zhoui is a valid species, not a generic trade hybrid. CITES Appendix II has a zero export quota for wild specimens for commercial purposes.
