Zedonk
Equus quagga x Equus asinus
A zedonk is a zebra-donkey hybrid, sometimes also called a zonkey depending on region and parentage. These animals typically combine the donkey's long ears, compact build, and sturdy feet with zebra striping on the legs, face, or body. As with other zebra hybrids, they are individual crosses rather than a stable breed, and fertility is generally limited.
Care for a zedonk should be planned by people with serious equine experience and a secure facility. Donkey influence may make them efficient keepers, while zebra influence can add speed, reactivity, and defensive behavior that complicates routine handling. Hoof care, dental care, parasite control, shelter, and low-sugar forage all matter. Transfers and public displays should be accompanied by clear information about both parents so the animal is not mistaken for a novelty pet.
