Yellow-spotted Pill Isopod
Armadillidium gestroi
The yellow-spotted pill isopod is a large pill-forming woodlouse whose dark adult body carries conspicuous yellow spots. Captive colonies use leaf litter and decayed wood as food and cover. Provide calcium, good ventilation and a moisture gradient with a dependable damp refuge, rather than uniformly wet substrate. Allow room for colony growth and remove spoiled supplemental foods. Females brood their offspring in a pouch and release fully formed young.
