Unknown Morph
In dart frog collections, an unknown-morph yellow-banded poison dart frog is a Dendrobates leucomelas kept without dependable morph, locality, or parentage information. The frog may still be healthy and typical of the species, with bold black markings and yellow, orange, cream, or white banding, but the unknown label tells future keepers that its genetic and geographic background is not confirmed. This is common in rescues, older collections, and casual pet trades where records did not follow the animal.
For husbandry, unknown-morph frogs need the same conditions as documented leucomelas: a warm humid vivarium with clean leaf litter, safe retreats, and steady access to small live prey. Captive-bred dart frogs should not be handled except when necessary, and they are best purchased from sources that explain their line history. Unknown morphs can make useful display animals, but breeding them requires caution; offspring should remain labeled as unknown or mixed rather than entering named morph projects.
