Western Swamp Turtle
Pseudemydura umbrina
The western swamp turtle is a small egg-laying freshwater turtle from the Perth region of southwestern Western Australia. Its squat body, short neck and flattened brown shell suit shallow seasonal wetlands, with periods spent in terrestrial refuge. Zoo-led conservation breeding provides controlled water and sheltered land access matched to this seasonal life. Pseudemydura umbrina is listed under the US ESA and CITES Appendix I. Movement requires careful legal documentation, and it is not a routine pet turtle.
