Western Indigo Snake
Drymarchon corais
The western indigo snake, also called the yellow-tail cribo, is a large egg-laying colubrid of tropical South America. Adults often have a dark anterior body becoming yellowish or brown toward the tail, with a robust head and smooth glossy scales. Experienced snake keepers provide substantial secure floor space, hides and a controlled thermal gradient. Drymarchon corais is distinct from the eastern indigo snake and the Central American Drymarchon melanurus; older broad indigo-snake names can obscure those identities.
