Western Green Mamba
Dendroaspis viridis
The western green mamba is an egg-laying elapid of West African forests. Adults are green with conspicuously dark-edged scales, a long slender body and an elongated head with round pupils. It climbs through vegetation and is distinct from the more uniformly colored eastern green mamba. Specialist venomous-snake and zoological facilities provide secure arboreal space and professional containment. Its venom is medically significant, and dangerous-animal licensing can apply to possession and movement.
