Western Banded Gecko
Coleonyx variegatus
The western banded gecko inhabits deserts and other dry habitats of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Its pale body has dark bands that often break into spots with age; movable eyelids and clawed toes distinguish it from adhesive-toed wall geckos.
Specialist keepers maintain and breed it. Ground housing provides secure shelters, warm and cooler retreats and a moist refuge for shedding and egg-laying, with small insects as food. Females lay eggs. It is a separate species from other Coleonyx geckos.
