Lesser Antillean Iguana
Iguana delicatissima
The Lesser Antillean iguana inhabits wooded habitats on islands of the Lesser Antilles. It lacks the large round cheek shield and strongly banded tail of the common green iguana, with which it can hybridize. Zoos maintain conservation breeding populations. Housing needs generous height, strong branches, visual barriers, bright basking areas and nesting substrate, with a plant-based diet following specialist guidelines.
Females lay eggs. It is critically endangered, and CITES Appendix II regulates international trade; lawful origin is essential.
