The weather loach is an eel-shaped loach native to eastern Asia, including China, Korea and Japan, living in muddy ponds, rice fields, swamps and slow rivers. It is mottled brown with darker gray-green marks, and it is said to grow restless when air pressure falls before storms, which gave it its name.
