Biak Tree Monitor
Varanus kordensis
The Biak tree monitor inhabits forest on Biak in Indonesia's Schouten Islands. Its slender olive to green body has a dark net-like pattern, strong climbing claws and a very long prehensile tail, distinguishing it from other tree monitors. It is kept and bred by specialist monitor breeders.
Housing needs tall, securely enclosed climbing space with substantial branches, hiding tubes, suitable basking sites and humid conditions supported by ventilation. It eats animal prey, chiefly invertebrates, and lays eggs. Trade falls under CITES Appendix II.
