Tropical Girdled Lizard
Cordylus tropidosternum
The tropical girdled lizard inhabits wooded savanna and rocky habitats in eastern and southeastern Africa. Its brown body has armored, keeled scales and a tail with spiny rings. Specialist keepers maintain and breed it. Housing provides rocks and branches, secure shelters, a controlled basking area, cooler retreats and access to water; it should not be treated as a desert lizard kept permanently dry.
It eats small invertebrates and gives birth to live young. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
