Three-Striped Roofed Turtle
Batagur dhongoka
The three-striped roofed turtle is an egg-laying river turtle of South Asia, particularly the Ganges and Brahmaputra drainages. Its raised shell roof and three dark lengthwise stripes help distinguish it from related Batagur turtles. Specialist zoological and conservation facilities provide extensive clean aquatic space and sandy nesting banks.
Batagur dhongoka is distinct from the red-crowned and Burmese roofed turtles. CITES regulates international movement, making documented origin and specialist conservation management important.
