Thicktail Day Gecko
Phelsuma mutabilis
The thicktail day gecko inhabits warm, dry habitats in western and southern Madagascar. Unlike many bright green day geckos, it is often light grey or brown with dark and white flecks; adult males can show a pale blue tail in strong light. Specialist keepers breed it, though raising young can be challenging.
Housing needs bright, planted climbing space, suitable basking opportunities, ventilation and regular hydration, with care to avoid overheating juveniles. It eats small insects and fruit-based foods and lays eggs. CITES Appendix II regulates trade.
