Tentacled Snake
Erpeton tentaculatum
The tentacled snake is a specialized live-bearing aquatic snake of mainland Southeast Asia. Its paired short sensory tentacles on the snout and brown banded or striped body distinguish it from other water snakes. It waits motionless among submerged cover and catches fish.
Specialist aquatic-snake collections provide clean freshwater, submerged resting structures and secure containment, with husbandry designed around its aquatic life. Erpeton tentaculatum is not a terrestrial colubrid to house in a dry snake enclosure.
