Taiwan Stink Snake
Elaphe carinata
The Taiwan stink snake is an egg-laying ratsnake of eastern Asia, including Taiwan, China and northern Vietnam. Adults typically show yellow and black reticulated scales, a robust body and a distinct elongated head; juveniles can look less vividly patterned. The common name refers to defensive odor. Experienced snake keepers provide secure terrestrial space, sturdy climbing routes, hides and a controlled thermal gradient. Elaphe carinata is distinct from the beauty snake, despite overlapping regional trade names.
