Surinam Cockroach
Pycnoscelus surinamensis
The Surinam cockroach is a small burrowing roach commonly cultured in moist substrate. Captive populations reproduce parthenogenetically: females retain their egg cases and release live nymphs without needing males. Provide deep, well-ventilated substrate with a moisture gradient and a varied plant-based diet. Adults are dark brown with a lighter pronotum edge. Secure containment matters because this roach burrows, hides readily and can establish in warm planted environments.
