Sunbeam Snake
Xenopeltis unicolor
The sunbeam snake is an egg-laying burrowing snake of Southeast Asia. Its smooth dark brown scales produce strong rainbow iridescence in changing light, while the underside is pale and the head is flattened for moving through loose ground. Specialist collections provide secure terrestrial accommodation with suitable burrowing substrate, sheltered retreats and controlled conditions.
Xenopeltis unicolor is distinct from Xenopeltis hainanensis. The iridescence is a natural optical effect, not a captive color morph or a sign of toxicity.
