Mixed Breed
A mixed-breed sun conure is an informal label for a sun conure-type parrot whose ancestry is uncertain, mixed, or not tied to a named avicultural line. Sun conures, Aratinga solstitialis, are small South American parrots with intense yellow, orange, and red plumage plus green and blue in the wings and tail. The species itself does not have formal breeds in the way domestic mammals do, so this label may cover pet-store stock, rescue birds, hybrids, or birds with incomplete background information.
Daily management is the same as for a sun conure unless a veterinarian or experienced aviculturist identifies another species influence. These conures are vocal, athletic, and strongly bonded to people or flockmates, so housing should allow climbing, chewing, bathing, and regular interaction. Mixed-background birds can make good companions, but they should not be used in pure sun conure breeding programs. Age, sex, health testing, and temperament usually matter more to an owner than the exact color label.
