Crossbred

A crossbred sun conure is a bird with sun conure ancestry, Aratinga solstitialis, mixed with another closely related conure line. In aviculture this most often means a hybrid with another Aratinga species, such as a jenday conure, though parentage is not always clear in second-generation birds. The bright yellow, orange, and red body color of a pure sun conure may be softened, rearranged, or mixed with greener plumage, and pied markings can further complicate visual identification.

Crossbred conures are usually managed as active, loud, highly social companion parrots rather than as conservation or pure-species breeding stock. They need a roomy cage, safe flight or play time, foraging toys, and a diet based on quality pellets with vegetables and limited fruit or seed. Buyers should ask what the parents were and expect adult color to change after juvenile molts. If breeding is considered, the hybrid background should be disclosed so offspring are not represented as pure sun conures.

Colors: Normal Yellow Orange Red, Pied
