Unknown Breed
An unknown-breed sulfur-crested cockatoo is a Cacatua galerita whose subspecies, family line, or captive-breeding background has not been recorded. In parrots, "breed" is usually an informal pet-listing term rather than a true registry category. These large white cockatoos are recognized by the forward-curving yellow crest, dark bill, powdery plumage, and loud carrying calls. The species is native to Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands, with several regional forms that can differ in size and facial skin color.
Care decisions should be based on the species rather than the label. Sulfur-crested cockatoos need a very large cage or aviary, daily supervised time out, heavy chewable enrichment, and steady social routines to prevent screaming, feather damage, or destructive boredom. They produce powder down, so ventilation and dust-sensitive household members matter. Anyone taking in an unknown-background bird should ask for hatch or transfer paperwork when available, arrange an avian veterinary exam, and avoid breeding it as a known subspecies without reliable records.
