Spotted Turtle
Clemmys guttata
The spotted turtle is a small egg-laying freshwater turtle of eastern North America. Its smooth black shell and dark skin carry scattered yellow spots, although the number and intensity vary among individuals. It uses shallow wetlands and spends time on land. Specialist keepers provide clean shallow water, accessible dry areas, shelter and nesting substrate.
Clemmys guttata is distinct from the European pond turtle despite their yellow spotting. Native populations are protected in many jurisdictions, so documented legal origin matters.
