Timor Monitor
Varanus timorensis
The Timor monitor is a relatively small, slender monitor from Timor. Its dark grey-brown body carries many pale yellow or cream spots, and a long tail and strong claws support climbing on trees and rockwork. Specialist keepers have maintained and bred it in captivity. Housing needs climbing space, substantial cover, controlled basking opportunities and cooler refuges, with suitable substrate and hydration.
It eats animal prey, especially invertebrates, and lays eggs. Other members of the former Timor monitor complex are separate species. Trade falls under CITES Appendix II.
