Spiny Turtle
Heosemys spinosa
The spiny turtle is a forest-floor turtle of Southeast Asia. Its brown shell has a raised central keel and serrated margins, especially conspicuous in juveniles; the shell edges become less exaggerated with age. Specialist and conservation turtle collections provide moist sheltered ground, shallow water access and nesting substrate rather than treating it as a fully aquatic pond turtle.
Females lay eggs. Heosemys spinosa is a distinct species, and legal origin matters because international turtle trade and native collection are regulated.
