Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake
Crotalus pyrrhus
The southwestern speckled rattlesnake is a live-bearing pit viper of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. Its keeled body is densely speckled, with colors ranging from pale gray to pink or brown in different rocky habitats, and the tail carries a segmented rattle.
Specialist venomous-snake collections provide secure terrestrial housing with rocklike retreats and a controlled thermal gradient. Its venom is medically significant, and possession can require dangerous-animal permits. Crotalus pyrrhus is distinct from Crotalus mitchellii.
