Southern Vietnam Box Turtle
Cuora picturata
The southern Vietnam box turtle is a terrestrial forest turtle from southern Vietnam. Its domed pale-brown shell has dark markings, while the head is yellowish with darker speckling and the hinged plastron closes around the tucked limbs. Specialist and conservation collections provide moist forest-floor accommodation, sheltered retreats and shallow water access. Females lay eggs. Cuora picturata is distinct from the Indochinese and Bourret's box turtles; CITES Appendix I controls international trade.
