Mossy Leaf-tailed Gecko
Uroplatus sikorae
The mossy leaf-tailed gecko inhabits Madagascar's montane forests. Its grey-brown, lichen-like pattern, flattened leaf-shaped tail and fringed jaw and body conceal its outline against bark. It is kept and bred by specialist gecko keepers. A planted enclosure with upright branches, ventilation, regular hydration and cool conditions with a night drop is important; prolonged overheating is dangerous.
It eats insects and lays eggs. It is separate from Uroplatus sameiti, and international trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
