Side-Blotched Lizard
Uta stansburiana
The side-blotched lizard inhabits dry, open and rocky habitats in western North America. A dark patch behind each front leg gives it its name; the otherwise brown or grey body can carry pale speckles and orange or blue markings. It has been kept and bred in research colonies and terraria.
Terrestrial housing provides secure shelters, basking opportunities and cooler areas, with small live insects as food. Females lay eggs. Its orange, blue and yellow male throat types are famous for different mating strategies within the species.
