Schneider's Skink
Eumeces schneiderii
Schneider's skink occurs in dry, rocky and sandy country from North Africa through parts of western Asia. Its smooth golden-brown body often has orange spots and a bright yellow-orange stripe along the sides. It appears in the reptile trade and specialist breeding collections.
Housing needs generous ground space, diggable substrate, shelters and a controlled basking area with cooler retreats. Insects are the main captive food, with some plant foods also accepted. It lays eggs and is distinct from the larger Berber skink, Eumeces algeriensis.
