Unknown Morph
Unknown morph for a savannah monitor, Varanus exanthematicus, means the animal's color phase or captive line has not been pinned down. Many savannah monitors are essentially normal or wild type, with tan to gray ground color, darker rosettes, and a stout build suited to a terrestrial African monitor. Labels such as high yellow or red phase may describe a look, a locality influence, or a breeder's line, but they are not always managed like simple inherited morphs.
Keepers should treat an unknown morph as a standard savannah monitor and judge it by health, temperament, sourcing, and adult-size planning rather than by a decorative label. These lizards need experienced reptile housing, deep substrate, secure heat gradients, strong feeding control, and careful handling as they mature. For breeding or resale, the honest note is that the genetics are unverified; photos alone should not turn an uncertain monitor into a named color project.
