Crossbred
A crossbred Rüppell's parrot is a bird with known or suspected hybrid ancestry, usually involving Rüppell's parrot, Poicephalus rueppellii, and another Poicephalus species. Rüppell's parrots are medium-small African parrots native to dry woodland and savanna areas of Namibia and southwestern Angola. Typical birds are dark gray-brown with subtle pale edging, and adult females are especially noted for blue on the lower back and rump.
Crossbred parrots may make engaging companion birds, but they should not be represented as pure Rüppell's parrots in breeding or conservation contexts. Care is similar to other Poicephalus: a roomy cage or aviary, daily social contact, chewable enrichment, and a varied diet built around quality pellets, vegetables, and controlled seed or nut portions. Buyers should ask for hatch records and parent information where available, since hybrid identity can affect value, breeding decisions, and placement with people who specifically want a pure species bird.
