Roughtail Rock Agama
Laudakia stellio
The roughtail rock agama inhabits rocky slopes, walls and scrub in Greece and Turkey. It has a flattened body, strongly keeled scales and a long tail with conspicuous spiny rings; coloration varies from grey-brown to darker patterned tones. Also called the starred agama or hardun, it is kept and bred in terraria.
Housing centers on stable rockwork, secure crevices and a basking area with cooler retreats. It eats insects and some plant matter, and females lay eggs. Several former regional forms are now separate species.
