Red-Necked Pond Turtle
Mauremys nigricans
The red-necked pond turtle is a freshwater turtle of southern China and northern Vietnam. Adults have a dark oval hard shell; mature males may become very dark, while head and neck coloring varies with age and sex. It occurs in specialist turtle collections and conservation-oriented breeding.
Housing provides clean aquatic space, dry resting and basking areas, and suitable land for egg laying. Females lay eggs. Mauremys nigricans is distinct from the Chinese pond turtle and other Mauremys species despite similar trade names.
