Red Spitting Cobra
Naja pallida
The red spitting cobra is an egg-laying elapid of eastern Africa. Adults are often reddish or orange-brown, with a dark throat band and a cobra hood; color varies naturally. Naja pallida should not absorb north African records belonging to Naja nubiae. Specialist venomous-snake facilities provide secure terrestrial accommodation and professional containment.
Its venom is medically significant and can be projected toward the eyes, making both bites and eye exposure dangerous. Possession can require dangerous-animal permits.
