Red Bamboo Rat Snake
Oreocryptophis porphyraceus
The red bamboo rat snake is an egg-laying Asian snake associated with upland forests. Its red-orange coloration carries dark bands or stripes depending on origin and age. It uses sheltered ground-level habitats and needs protection from excessive heat in captivity, with leaf litter, secure hides and a moderate temperature gradient. Feed appropriately sized prey. Coxi, laticinctus and pulchra are geographic forms within this species, not separate catalog species.
