Pygmy Mulga Monitor

Varanus gilleni

The pygmy mulga monitor inhabits arid central Australian woodland, sheltering beneath bark and in tree hollows. Its small slender build, streaked head, banded back and striped tail distinguish it from related dwarf monitors. It is kept and bred by monitor specialists. Housing provides climbing surfaces, narrow sheltered retreats, warm basking areas and cooler places, with suitable moist nesting substrate and an insect-centered diet.

Females lay eggs. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II; its small size does not remove its specialist care needs.

Colors: Wild Type
