Princely Spiny-Tailed Lizard
Uromastyx princeps
The princely spiny-tailed lizard is native to Somalia's arid rocky country. Its compact body and short flattened tail with prominent spines distinguish it from longer-tailed Uromastyx. It appears in specialist reptile collections. Captive Uromastyx housing provides bright light, UVB, a strong basking area and cooler shaded refuges, with secure rocky shelters and a plant-based diet.
Females lay eggs. It is also called the Somalian mastigure; international trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II, and origin records help avoid confusion with other species.
