Prickly Gecko
Heteronotia binoei
The prickly gecko, also called Bynoe's gecko, is a small nocturnal Australian ground gecko. Raised dorsal tubercles, mottled brown-gray skin and slender clawed toes without adhesive pads distinguish it from house geckos. It is kept and bred in specialist collections. Housing uses sandy ground, sheltered retreats, a thermal gradient, access to moisture and small insect prey.
Females lay eggs; some lineages reproduce without males. Heteronotia binoei is a species complex, so known lineage and origin are useful when maintaining captive animals.
